Dr Ashley Barnes

Bio

Ashley has recently finished his doctorate in physical oceanography, focusing on how internal waves behave in modern high resolution regional models. During his PhD, he was surprised at how challenging ant time consuming it can be to run ocean models, even as someone with a background in computational mathematics. Motivated to lower this barrier to entry so people can focus more on science and less on confusing errors, Ashley led the effort to set up a user friendly, automated workflow, which now underpins Australia's new regional ocean model (rOM3). He's currently coupling rOM3 with its atmospheric counterpart to make Australia's next regional coupled climate model (rCM3).
