Dr Sam Green

Bio

Sam Green is a Research Software Engineer and Data Manager working in the fields of climate science, high-performance computing, and scientific data engineering. Sam's current work spans large-scale atmospheric reanalysis pipelines, machine learning for environmental applications, and scientific visualisation — with a particular focus on making HPC workflows more efficient and reproducible on systems like NCI's Gadi and Pawsey's Setonix. Sam is an active contributor to several major projects, including Feilian-3D, a deep learning system for urban wind flow prediction, HPC Dashboard, a HPC job efficiency dashboard, and zarr-dump, a Zarr inspection tool. Sam has a background in astrophysics where his previous research included predicting thermal radiation from stellar wind bubbles using multi-dimensional simulations. Sam holds a Bachelor degree in Physics & Astrophysicsa, a Masters degree in Space Science, and a PhD in Computational Astrophysics. Outside of research, he is an enthusiastic wildlife photographer and tinkerer.
