Moulik Mandal

Bio

Moulik Mandal is a PhD candidate at the University of Tasmania, where he investigates the physics and dynamics of Australian-region extratropical cyclones and their associated extreme events in a warming climate. His research focuses on understanding how synoptic-scale weather systems respond to climate change, with particular emphasis on extreme rainfall, air-sea interactions, and variability across timescales. Prior to commencing his PhD, Moulik completed a B.Sc. (Honours) in Physics, and an M.Sc. in Atmospheric Sciences from India. His master’s research examined the influence of boreal summer monsoon intraseasonal oscillations on marine heatwave occurrence over the North Bay of Bengal. His broader research interests include extreme weather and climate events, their driving mechanisms, and their responses under future warming scenarios across tropical and extratropical regions.
