Steven Sherwood elected AGU Fellow

Please join us in congratulating our Chief Investigator Professor Steven Sherwood, who has been elected a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union.

The AGU’s Fellows program recognises members who have made exceptional contributions to Earth and space science through a breakthrough, discovery, or innovation in their field.

Fellows act as external experts, capable of advising government agencies and other organisations outside the sciences upon request.

Steven, who is part of the Climate Change Research Centre at UNSW in Sydney and a Chief Investigator with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes, has been a member of the AGU since 1993.

“It is very nice to be recognised with this honour,” Steven told 21st Century Weather’s engagement team.

“It’s also great that we have such a collegial community here in Australia, whose support – via the ARC and two Centres of Excellence – has been crucial in enabling much of the research work that helped make it happen!”

Steven, who studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California, has held positions at Victoria University of Wellington, the NASA-Goddard Earth Sciences and Technology Centre, and Yale University.

He has made significant contributions to the understanding of moisture-related processes in the atmosphere, particularly related to atmospheric convection.
