Iain Strachan
Bio
Iain (they/them) is the Senior Advisor - Engagement & Impact for 21st Century Weather. Alongside Zach White (Communications Advisor - Video & Social Media), Iain is responsible for 21st Century Weather's public engagement work through the Centre’s website and social media channels. Iain works closely with journalists and editors in traditional media, including online news, print, radio and television. Together with Professor Sarah Perkins-Kirkpatrick, Iain is the co-host of Totally Cooked: The Climate & Weather Podcast. Iain closely supports colleagues in the Partnerships and Training & Leadership portfolios, helping to further the Centre’s industry and government engagement objectives, and contributing to the professional development of Centre researchers.
Prior to joining the Centre, Iain was the Communications & Media Advisor for the ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science between 2019 and 2024. Iain previously worked at Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand from 2018-19, visiting coffee-growing cooperatives in Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands. From 2010 to 2018, Iain worked as a writer, editor and journalist in digital media in Australia and the United Kingdom, reporting on major sporting events including the FIFA World Cup from Rostov-on-Don and Volgograd, Russia and the UEFA European Championships from Lyon and Saint-Étienne, France.
